The Heroines of Sound festival is back this December for another excellent programme at HAU2 featuring concerts by Perera Elsewhere, Natalie Beridze TBA, Dorit Chrysler, Audrey Chen, Lucrecia Dalt and many many more as well as screenings, talks and installations.
Natalie Beridze aka Tusia Beridze aka Nate Fisher aka TBA was born and lives in Tbilisi, Georgia, situated in between Caucasus and Armenia where some of the most beautiful people are coming from, where red wine has the colour of dark blood and where they use an incredibly complex alphabet out of playful ornaments. Her new album Guliagava came out earlier this year on monika enterprise.
With her sophomore album, Commotus, Barcelona pop luminary Lucrecia Dalt crafts a surrealist landscape borne by the inexorable scope and sand-swept surfaces of geologic time. She leaps into a surrealist landscape with stunning abandon, eschewing the comparatively safe tropes and song structures of her previous work. And she charts a surprisingly inventive and rewarding territory in the process. Much as it is with her newfound contemporaries at HEM Berlin, for Dalt, solitude and assemblage (of sound, genre, musicology, technique) is an exploratory zone steered toward the inner universe.
For about a decade the internationally staffed trio Jahcoozi has been dedicating their talents to their very own draft of bass-driven electronic pop music, and only a very persistent form of nightlife fatigue may have excluded Berliners from their presence. But now Sasha Perera, singer of the group, is elsewhere, namely with her solo project Perera Elsewhere.
Dorit Chrysler is an Austrian born thereminist, composer, producer, and singer. She is the co-founder (with Suzanne Fiol) of the New York Theremin Society and started America’s first school for theremin, “KidCoolThereminSchool”. She has been commissioned for MoMA and the Venice Biennale. Promoting the use of theremin in contemporary music styles, she has collaborated with Lene Lovich, Dinosaur Jr., Marilyn Manson, Mercury Rev, Electro Indigo, and Blonde Redhead.
