gamut inc‘s series PYTHO: Black Square at Theater im Delphi / Friday, 17.4.2026

gamut inc – led by composers Marion Wörle and Maciej Śledziecki – presents a hypnotic evening of computer-controlled pipes and light. For the 7th edition of their concert series PYTHO at Theater im Delphi, they perform with BLACK SQUARE.

BLACK SQUARE is a modular organ that fundamentally reimagines what an acoustic instrument can do. Premiered at CTM Festival Berlin, BLACK SQUARE consists of two identical square modules, each housing 64 pipes, in which the wind pressure of every individual pipe can be changed within milliseconds. Where classical organ pipes are simply switched on or off, BLACK SQUARE opens a continuous spectrum – microtonality, glissandi, resynthesis – occupying a space between acoustic organ and electronic synthesiser.

The two modules can operate in stereo opposition or be detuned against each other, generating a spatial dimension that is as much architectural as musical. The pieces move between harmony and noise, building an euphorically intoxicating maelstrom of overlapping, accelerating textures and harmonies.

For PYTHO 7, this sonic architecture is met by a purpose-built light choreography – developed specifically for this concert – that moves and pulses in direct correspondence with the music, turning the stage into a unified field of sound and light. PYTHO is gamut inc’s ongoing series for new music theatre and concert formats at Theater im Delphi Berlin, where the ensemble has been testing the boundaries of music theatre and machine music since 2021.
