Erich Weinert Studioband & Michał Biela at Schokoladen / Friday, 7.11.2025

The Erich Weinert Studioband celebrate their debut album release Pankow Arpeggio with a special live concert at Schokoladen this November.

The Erich Weinert Studioband is a sextet: on bass Josepha Conrad (Touching Box), vocals Lydia Schmidt (Jacques Palminger & 440Hz Trio), guitar “Germany’s-Best-Kept-Secret” F.S.Blumm, harmonica Andre Welt, studio-operator Ed Rich on drums and Fabian Skodda on piano and organ.

The band started out in the basement of a back-set building on Erich-Weinert-Strasse in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg. Here, in the furthest corner of a piano workshop, a studio full of analogue equipment emerged, begging for a permanent recording formation. In their songs, the band moves between gentle daydreams, endangered niches, thoughts on current affairs and the poetry of everyday life.

The lovingly arranged songs are musically inspired by Manfred Krug and Burt Bacharach and celebrate the grooves of The Meters and The Revolutionaries. The band locates their sound between indie pop, lovers rock, soul and rocksteady and has now emerged from the studio onto the stage.

Michał Biela is a distinctive voice in Poland’s alternative scene. A co-founder of the post-rock band Kristen, he has also played with Ścianka, Kings of Caramel, and Enchanted Hunters. Since his 2014 solo debut—nominated for the prestigious Paszport Polityki award—he has crafted minimalist songs that blend folk and Americana with Polish poetic traditions, praised for their elegance, restraint, and haunting atmosphere.
