The ensemble mosaik presents the world premiere of a new full-length work by Volker Heyn – for mezzo-soprano, 14 instrumentalists, electronic playback, and video projections. The work references the 1906 exposé novel *The Jungle* by Upton Sinclair. Both the novel and the composition shed light on the unethical practices of industrial meat production, to which both the migrant workforce and the exploited animals are subjected.
The premiere of TRANSFER is a multimedia-enhanced concert featuring animations created by media designer Valerie Epet, based on Heyn’s own drawings.
Under the direction of Enno Poppe, the work will be performed by ensemble mosaik and mezzo-soprano Anna Clare Hauf, becoming a vivid and compelling experience in which music, visuals, and voice merge into an impressive overall production.
Founded in Berlin in 1997, ensemble mosaik is known for venturing into experiments across genres and artistic disciplines and for creating laboratory-like situations in which artistic research can unfold. Through the regular and multifaceted interaction of instrumental, performative, and electronic means of expression in diverse performance settings, the ensemble has developed a new performance culture that has inspired many younger ensembles.
The wide range of unusual techniques of sound production and articulation employed on stage is continually expanded through additional perceptual layers, creating multimedia interconnections between different sensory experiences. Almost all members have been part of the ensemble for more than fifteen years. Since its beginnings, the ensemble has cultivated long-standing and intensive collaborations with many internationally renowned composers, not least with Enno Poppe, who has been a permanent member of the ensemble as conductor since 1998.
