Berlin Confidential w/ Kaan Bulak and Ella van Poucke at Villa Elisabeth / Sunday, 8.2.2026

On 8 February 2026, the nomadic concert series Berlin Confidential invites you to Villa Elisabeth for an evening of music featuring Cellist Ella van Poucke and composer–pianist Kaan Bulak, together with his ensemble, presenting works by Johann Sebastian Bach alongside original compositions, including the world premiere of the cello sonata Briefly Gorgeous.

Kaan Bulak is a composer between cultures and genres. Between melodic influences of his hometown Istanbul and electronic club music of Berlin, his music sits in a dreamlike space in between. As a pianist and electronics performer, Bulak performs with his own strings ensemble internationally, including concerts at Opernhaus Zürich, Philharmonie Berlin, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg.

As conducting composer, Bulak collaborated with the orchestra of Konzerthaus Berlin for his electro-acoustic composition Resonanz Berlin. Bulak’s music is in the repertoire of musicians such as Anastasia Kobekina, Johan Dalene, Julien Quentin, Benedict Klöckner, Anna Federova. His musical encounters on stage and on record include psychedelic rock singer Gaye Su Akyol, soprano Sarah Aristidou, as well as avant-garde artist Robert Lippok and minimal pioneer Ricardo Villalobos. His first cello sonata is regularly chosen by students as their final exam piece at universities all over the world.

Ella van Poucke is an internationally acclaimed Dutch cellist who made her debut at the Concertgebouw at the age of ten and has since performed in major concert halls around the world. She has performed as a soloist with numerous renowned orchestras, including the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Brussels Philharmonic, the Kremerata Baltica and has collaborated with conductors and artists such as Christoph Eschenbach and Karina Canellakis.

As a committed chamber musician, she regularly performs with leading musicians and at international festivals such as Verbier, Music@Menlo and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Her discography includes highly acclaimed recordings, including her Schumann debut album and a Rachmaninoff tribute. In 2024 she attracted particular attention with her performance of all six Bach suites in one evening.
