Aisha Vaughan is an experimental artist whose music captures the landscapes, lore and languages of her native Wales. Living in the Elan Valley at the headwaters of the River Wye, she lives and works among moss-covered forests, open fields and running waters, using samples, field recordings, live harp and her own angelic voice to create delicate compositions as soothing as they are ethereal.

1. What is the biggest inspiration for your music?
I would say many things but the biggest is probably Nature. Watching, listening and observing the natural world.
2. How and when did you get into making music?
I was about 9, I watched Gladiator for the first time, and Il never forget how I felt after hearing the score by Lisa Gerrard and Hans Zimmer… I knew I wanted to make music.

Vangelis, Blade Runner.

4. What do you associate with Berlin?
My mums old house!
5. What’s your favourite place in your town?

6. If there was no music in the world, what would you do instead?
hmm.. probably either attempt something in Philosophy or Cosmology.
7. What was the last record/music you bought or listened to?
Vangelis, conquest of paradise.
8. Who would you most like to collaborate with?
hm… I would love to collaborate with Howard Shore!
9. What was your best gig (as performer or spectator)?
Sufjan Stevens headlining End of the road festival.. The stars were out and it was magical.
10. How important is technology to your creative process?
Super Important… It’s amazing to be able to take my iPad in the forest or by the river and just record them there. Its been a Game Changer!
11. Please tell us about the making of your latest release ‘The Water’.
I was sitting down by the river next to where we live and I really wanted to create a song that felt like the water bubbling and flowing down the river.. it took several hours and I got very cold… haha. But it set the tone for the rest of the album.. all the songs on the album were made next to a different body of water.
