Tellavision & Derya Yildirim at HAU2 / Thursday, 17.01.2019
As an opening concert for their British Shorts festival Lichtspielklub presents an awesome double bill at HAU2 this January with Tellavision & Derya Yildirim both performing live.
Led by Derya Yıldırım’s hypnotizing Saz and vocals, Grup Şimşek deliver their own interpretation of Turkish jewels (by artists such as Selda Bağcan, Barış Manço, Özdemir Erdoğan), but also draw their originality from beautiful compositions and a fantastic ability in improvising.
The line-up: talented Turkish singer and multi-instrumentist Derya Yildirim; 3 musicians from London/France-based collective Catapulte Records (Andrea Piro, Graham Mushnik and Antonin Voyant from l’Orchestre du Montplaisant); and Greta Eacott, British composer and percussionist (G-Bop Orchestra, One Take Records). The 5 musicians met thanks to music antropologist, DJ and friend Sebastian “Booty” Carrell (B-music), who was musical coordinator for the New Hamburg festival – where the quintet performed live for the first time (as Intercommunal Orchestra). When the Hamburg project came to an end, they were sure of one thing: the band must live on
After numerous collaborations and musical commissions for the theater, the musician, artist and label owner Fee Kürten returns with a new set of her project Tellavision. On „Third Eye“, she adds her own self-proclaimed hardware post-pop to elements of contemporary pop music and proves once again that avant-garde is still the best source of inspiration for pop. Atonal Lo-Fi sounds from the synthesizer and broken beats mingle with their expressionist voice to Future Soul under the auspices of DIY punk.
For the live realization, Tellavision has developed together with the stage designer Johanna Landt her own stage concept, which incorporates her many years of experience with performative and visual art. In addition, the multi-instrumentalist and Kat Frankie and Masha Qrella musician Robert Kretzschmar is also on stage.
