Ted Milton (born 1943) grew up in Africa, Canada and Great Britain. He published some early poems in magazines like Paris Review. In 1969 his poetry was published in the anthology Children of Albion: Poetry of the Underground in Britain. In the mid-sixties he began performing as a puppeteer, participating in numerous international festivals and appearing on So It Goes, the TV show hosted by Tony Wilson. He contributed a short scene for Terry Gilliam’s film Jabberwocky.

In the late seventies he began to play alto-saxophone and founded the group Blurt. The first single “My Mother Was A friend Of An Enemy Of The People” was soon followed by the live album In Berlin (1981). Since then Blurt released more than twenty records. While living in Brussels in the mid-nineties, Milton started making book-objects with found materials. These were shown on several exhibitions and have been taken up in the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris as well as in the British Library.

http://www.myspace.com/electrofreakyegyptianlover

Greg Broussard (born August 31, 1963), better known by his stage name Egyptian Lover is an American electro musician, vocalist, producer and DJ, and was an important part of the L.A. dance music and rap scene in the early 1980s.

The Egyptian Lover started out as a D.J. in Los Angeles with Uncle Jamms Army doing dances at the L.A. Sports Arena. He began recording around Los Angeles in 1982 as a member of the Radio Crew. In the early days of hip hop, albums were rare, so most of The Egyptian Lover’s successful recordings were 12″ singles. He would eventually release some of the earliest rap LPs, which was especially unique for being west-coast based, but they were less popular than his singles. But on the strength of containing an alternate mix of his most popular single “Egypt, Egypt”, 1984′s On the Nile was moderately successful.

After a break in the early 1990s, Egyptian Lover returned in 1994 (see 1994 in music) with Back from the Tomb. His last full-length album in over ten years. Although his own version is more unfamiliar to modern ears than the newer covers of the song, Egyptian Lover’s “I Need a Freak” has subsequently become “Lolafalana” popularized by Esham, and more notably, “Cherry Pie” by Insane Clown Posse.

Good luck trying to categorize their music. Led by the relentless drummer Malcolm Catto, the UK collective’s objective lays quite a ways beyond what ordinary listeners know or expect. In an alternative galaxy, where the orbits of Hip-Hop, Funk, Jazz, Psychedelic, Electronic, Avante-Garde and Ethnic music all revolve around “The One” – that’s where you might find The Heliocentrics.

http://www.myspace.com/mulatuastatke
Mulatu Astatke is an Ethiopian musician and arranger. He is known as the father of Ethio-jazz. Born in 1943 in the western Ethiopian city of Jimma, Mulatu was musically trained in London, New York City, and Boston, where he was the first African student at Berklee College of Music. He would later combine his jazz and Latin music influences with traditional Ethiopian music.
