Summer Slang w/ Sinkane, Noga Erez, Cristobal And The Sea, Habibi Funk & Twit One at Festsaal Kreuzberg / Saturday, 12.08.2017
The annual summer party of City Slang showcases the widest variety of talent and music from the label. Brooklyn native Ahmed Gallab and his Afro-Funk outfit SINKANE, sharp and not so subtle beats with NOGA EREZ from Tel Aviv, a twisted fresh anarchist version of „Exotica“ with London’s CRISTOBAL AND THE SEA. Plus DJ Sets from HABIBI FUNK and TWIT ONE and a couple more surprises.
Sinkane is a musician who blends krautrock, prog rock, electronica, free jazz and funk rock with Sudanese pop. He is signed to DFA Records. Born to college professors in London, he lived in Sudan, then moved to the US when he was five, and lived for some time in Kent, Ohio followed by Columbus, Ohio. Prior to embarking on his solo career, he worked with Eleanor Friedberger, Caribou, of Montreal, Born Ruffians, and Yeasayer as a session musician.
Noga Erez is an Israeli musician, singer-songwriter, keyboardist and producer.
Born and living just outside Tel Aviv, multi-instrumentalist Erez’s grainy textures and potent atmospheres forged with her synths and ingenious beats bravely straddle genres, energized further by the environment in which she’s grown up.
Cristobal And The Sea, the London-based union of Alejandro ‚Ale’ Romero (bass, vocals, Spain), João Seixas (guitar, vocals, Portgual), Leïla Séguin (flute, vocals, Corsica/France) and Elliott Arndt (drums, UK) harnesses an altogether fluid, rhythmic and exquisitely melodic energy as colourful and enigmatic as their band name, forged from different strands of DNA, primarily bossa-nova, Afro-pop and Western folk and rock
