“Here I’m giving honour to my parents and to every revolutionary who has made a difference, many of them from before I was born.”

If there is one sound that is sure to get you dancing, it is that sweet afro-beat. Carrying important political messages, it always brings the people together. With his latest album ‘Black Times’ released this March, J.A.W Family are honoured to present Seun Kuti, youngest son of late and legendary Fela Kuti for the release of his new Album on the excellent UK-based label Strut Records. Black Times is the fourth album by Seun and Fela’s original Band Egypt 80, his most accomplished and honest album yet.

A killer saxophonist and powerful lyricist, Seun is a pioneer of afrobeat music like his father performing with the renowned Egypt 80. For his last opus, he has worked alongside the likes of Robert Glasper, Carlos Santana, Hiatus Kaiyote or Yasiin Bey (alias Mos Def) who add to the classic sound. Seun keeps his words socially conscious and politically forceful, mixing it with the upbeat and irresistable afrobeat groove. We are sure that in the intimate Festsaal Kreuzberg, it will heat up fast.

Opening the night for Seun Kuti is Guy Dermosessian, a Family friend & a man with a great knowledge of African music and everything that can touch your soul. Owner of the excellent Kalakuta Soul Records, this Bochum-based label has releases from the likes of Sadar Bahar, Waxist, Zaf Lovevinyl or Ed Motta and celebrates world music gems with the aim of keeping people dancing.
