D/B Recommended: Miranda with Lonski and Classen & Hobocombo @ West Germany Berlin | Friday, 14.06.2013

At the age of 16, Miranda Gjerstad started to make a name of herself in the music scene of Malmoe, Sweden.

With her pumporgan, a powerful voice and cabaret inspired performances she could be seen playing at parties in the dark swedish woods, rockclubs and theaters, wearing glittering clowncostumes and feathered dress-coats.

Two years later, when Miranda moved to Berlin, she had already been playing on radio and tv, composed music for theater plays and had been nominated by the Swedish independent music award “Manifestgalan” as best unsigned artist of the year ’09.

In Berlin you can hear her sing in trainstations, bars, clubs and festivals. The theatrical teenager has faded away and forth came a simple and honest sound with suggestive folky tunes and a voice more sensitive and frail.

For this concert, Miranda will be accompanied by Lukas Lonski and Felix Classen on guitar and drums. Lonski & Classen have been playing unique music since their childhood, however their first two albums “Lonski & Classen” and “Climbing on Branches” took up position at Skeletons’, Thom Yorke’s or Talk Talk’s side.

Their independence in style, mathematical precision in the geometrical play of instruments, a warm lightness and a delicate blend of guitars, drums and melancholic melodies create sound drenched moments of pure spirit.

For their forthcoming album ALL TOMORROW IS ILLUSION, which according to sources close to the band, sounds like the big album that had been a promise since they first captivated the scene a few years back, there’ll be no more need for outside references, just the bliss and the beauty of the moment as the evening comes.

Lonski & Classen | Running Up That Hill

Having started as a fun band, Hobocombo (Andrea Belfi on drums, percussion and voice, Rocco Marchi on guitar, synth and voice, Francesca Baccolini on double bass and voice) in fact has become much more than a tribute band to Moondog.

They found their own sound and amuse themselves while reinterpreting Moondog’s songs in an indie pop/rock context, a vision for a general public of our times and perspectives, projecting the positive notes of Moondog.

This is no exploitation of Moondog’s heritage, but a fresh understanding what to do with these songs, Hobocombo’s way. The rather complex but playful rhythms that are slightly repetitive in nature in a pre-minimalist sense are divided into drum rhythms and the pleasant presence of the shakers, and occasionally guitar rhythms or double bass.

After the concerts, dj Fog Puma will perform one of his slow motion dance sets in the realm of Cosmic Disco, Krautrock, dubby Post-Punk, lost 80s pop gems, haunted downbeats and sundrenched Yachtrock edits.
