Two of Digital in Berlin’s favourite acts in the field of ambient music team up this November for an exceptional double bill at Tiefgrund in Friedrichshain. Canadian Loscil will play his first Berlin show since his performance at the D/B Musiksalon 2 years ago, while Berlin resident Svarte Greiner will also deliver another of his fine solo concerts. All of which makes for a first class double bill – we can think of no finer way to spend your Friday night.
Loscil is the project of Vancouver based composer Scott Morgan. Morgan’s background in Vancouver’s independent music scene as a drummer and guitarist and his academic composition studies at Simon Fraser University culminated in the creation of Loscil in the late 1990’s. With Loscil, Morgan explores the marriage of electronic production and acoustic instrumentation to create “…stark landscapes that are evocative, earthly, anything but abstract, and so much more than merely ‘ambient’.” (The Quietus, UK).
Loscil has produced numerous remixes and collaborated with other musicians such as bvdub, Rachel Grimes, Christina Vantzou, Destroyer and Kelly Wyse. He has composed for film and appeared in bold documentaries such as The Corporation, Scared Sacred and Damnation. He has created bespoke music for dance and video games such as Hundreds and Osmos and has performed worldwide including at renound festivals such as Mutek, Decibel and Big Ears.
Svarte Greiner is the one man project of Erik K. Skodvin (half of the duo Deaf Center & label manager of the Miasmah label). Born 1979, raised in Langesund / Norway currently lives and works in Berlin after a long period in Oslo. erik works as freelance as a graphic designer (miasmah design) mostly for record labels, artists and within music business. He also makes music himself under the aliases svarte greiner & deaf center + runs the record label miasmah recordings and has played as a session musician for Nils Frahm´s Victoria.
