UM:LAUT is a live platform for artists and labels availing themselves of various musical traditions, realising ambitious and unique projects regardless of genre boundaries.
The series’ focus lies on the in-between, on the experimental range between classical and electronic instrumentation, composition and improvisation, club and concert hall.
Kira Kira is the alias of Icelandic composer and media artist Kristin Björk Kristjansdottir, who presents her third album „Feathermagnetik“ in the series of UM:LAUT.

For her first release with Morr Music’s sublabel „Sound Of A Handshake“, Kira Kira, who currently lives in Berlin, has collaborated with numerous musicians – among them the Finnish percussionist and producer Samuli Kosminen and the trumpeter Eiríkur Orri Ólafsson of the Icelandic band múm as well as the bassist Borgar Magnason and Hilmar Jensson, one of the founding members of Kitchen Motors – thereby creating fragile formations of music and playful sound collages between electronica, glitch and experimental.
For the record release concert at Radialsystem V, Kira Kira is joined by Samuli Kosminen, Eiríkur Orri Ólafsson and special guest Greg Cohen – as well as by the Icelandic filmmaker Sara Gunnarsdóttir who provides the underlying visuals. Beforehand, the percussionist and sound explorer Samuli Kosminen, who is internationally successful with the band múm and has collaborated with Hauschka and Kronos Quartet, plays one of his rare solo sets.

Kira Kira also composes for film, dance, installations, and theatre, amongst others for a production of Dostoevsky’s
“Notes from the Underground” at Schaubühne Berlin.
Her first feature film as director and screenwriter, “Grandma Lo-Fi: The Basement Tapes of Sigrídur Níelsdóttir”, has recently been invited to New York’s Museum of Modern Art, is currently screened at numerous festivals world-wide and celebrates its German premiere before the concert at UM:LAUT at RADIALSYSTEM V on 8 July.
