Kiezsalon w/ Raoul Vignal, G.A.M.S. & Tasho Ishi / Wednesday, 25.09.2019

From 2010 to this day, 26-year-old Raoul Vignal has been playing authentic, modern folk music. Forming the fragile essence of his compositions, soothing vocals and delicate fingerpicking played on alternate tunings are Vignal’s trademark. After the release of his third EP in November 2014, recorded at Klangbild Studios (Berlin), Raoul Vignal composed the following year the original soundtrack to ‘Sweet Water of Memory’, a German-produced movie directed by Carlos Vin Lopes. ‘Oak Leaf’ is Vignal’s latest album out in November 2018 via Talitres. It is a mature and orchestrated full-length excursion into austere autumnal beauty. While the compositions on “Oak Leaf” remain his own, the arrangements this time are more of a collaboration between everyone involved in the band. At Kiezsalon Vignal performs as a trio.

Feedback leads a life of it’s own. It is an uncontrollable sonic accident, usually ear-numbingly loud but sometimes also delicately ethereal. The essence of feedback is being released from bonds, its path is always one of intensification and escape. Its a physical phenomenon and hard to predict. The duo G.A.M.S. makes music on the edge of losing control. A restless drummer works his way through waves of feedback, which span the full spectrum of frequencies from pumping bass to the highest tones. With the pulse of the feedback Andi Stechers drumming, at times feverish and driven, then distanced and abstract, creates polyrhythmic structures. Whats comes into being is a maelstrom of sound and rhythm – music beyond every style, the power of which lies in its rawness. Stecher and Möbius switch the roles of desired and undesired sound and thereby create pieces like archaic sculptures.

Tasho Ishi is a sound designer, image consultant, and advertisement critic currently working for a major record label in Tokyo. He debuted as BRF in 2016 with ‘BRF-KU’ EP and he is active under the same moniker in the Japanese fashion market as a runway music curator. Earlier this summer, Tasho Ishi’s debut album ‘Dentsu2060’ was released on Lorenzo Senni’s Presto!? imprint as part of its ‘Ten Years Of Tomorrow’ series, celebrating a decade of the experimental label. The LP merges field recordings with choppy vaporwave production to create a bizarre and synthetic soundtrack for Ishi’s current home, the city of Tokyo.
