Ableton Loop at Funkhaus Berlin / 04.11 – 06.11.2016

After the success of the first edition, the Loop Ableton 2016 will take place this year at Funkhaus from November 4th to 6th. This summit for music makers creates an open space for discussions and the place to listen the finest worldwide artists, technologists, educators and other creative thinkers. It’s a time, when a part of the community can join, share, participate and learn about new technologies in music, creation, sounds recording, music history and much more again.

Divided into four groups: presentations, studio sessions, workshops and discussions; an incredible program over three days that embraces the multiple layers in between sonic sounds, music, human and robot collaborations, and philosophical concepts.

The diva of Electronic Music, Suzanne Ciani will give a presentation about her 40 years of music and sound making under the poetic name of « The life in waves ». Moritz von Oswald will be in conversation with the music journalist Philip Sherburne about « the studio as an instrument », Chagall and Adam Stark will present a session demonstrating the mi.mu gloves. Daedelus will explore both the headspace of the music maker in the act of creation and the sonic qualities of Funkhaus itself, also he will give a studio session as well as Sasha Perera, Peter Mannerfelt or again Anna Meredith.

Jason Hockman will trace the evolving role of breakbeats in electronic music, Chino Amobi, Elysia Crampton, the only and unique Lee Scratch Perry. The multi-instrumentalist and music producer Emile Hoogenhout (a.k.a Behr) will do a hands-on workshop about “Ethical Sampling: Recording acoustic instruments and building Racks”.

He will also, along with Cora nova, Demian Licht and Rasmus Kjærbo take part in a discussion about the local scene in a globalized world where they will «investigate the importance of being connected to international networks, how regional musical idioms interact with global genres and much more ». Diva,Tarik Barri, Jana Winderen, Kyoka, Native Instrument and so much more noted artists are already programmed for this year.

Robert Henke, will present « Fragile territories » in the Funkhaus Sound Chamber for the duration of the summit. In a few words « The shapes and auditive elements are created in real-time using statistic and stochastic algorithms, resulting in an infinite duration of the work; its state at any given moment being impossible to predict. ». The visible will speak with the invisible effect of the sounds, a magical and mathematical space commissioned by Le Lieu Unique, Nantes, France in 2012, it will be a German premiere.

Based on an idea, which is to develop a philosophical, biographical and musical paths of an artist, some tracks chosen by the contributors of the Wire Magazine, will be discussed in front of a live audience at the ‘Invisible Jukebox’. Gudrun Gut will be one of the participants.

Berlin Radio Community will host a live radio stream during the whole weekend. CTM and CDR in collaboration with Ableton will prepare the night program at The Volksbühne on Friday and Saturday. Some presentations from last year:
