Guardian Alien is a free wheeling ensemble coming into its own, having found just the right balance between structured arrangements and wild abandon.
Helmed by Greg Fox, who has lent his percussive force to the likes of Teeth Mountain, Dan Deacon, and Liturgy, the ensemble was initially an extension of his solo music (GDFX).
It rapidly took on its own identity and expanded to a core group of Greg, Alex Drewchin, Turner Williams Jr., Bernard Gann, and Eli Winograd, all of whom have lent their expansive talents to numerous other projects.
Guardian Alien | See the World Given to a One Love Entity
Javelin consists of two cousins, Tom Van Buskirk and George Langford. They started making music together in Providence, RI in 2004, although their earliest collaborative tapes date back to a bunk bedroom near the sea shore.
In performance, Javelin use colorfully painted boomboxes that form large speaker totems (“boombaatas”) which can hang from the ceiling or stack up on the floor like pyramids.
Javelin | Estevez
In 2010 Javelin signed to Luaka Bop, David Byrne’s psychedelic world music label, who released their debut LP No Más and the Canyon Candy EP, finding Javelin exploring a junk store cowboy aesthetic.
The new record is called Hi Beams. It represents a more holistic approach to writing and recording than previously attempted by the band.
Javelin | Nnormal
The songs cover a broad range of territories: homage to the strangeness of being a performer; encountering beauty & the void in the natural world; how mundane aspects of work/life distract and alienate us from our desires.
Advice to internet-based musicians; an assurance to someone who has isolated themselves; light, sky, stars, moon; gravity, delivered with levity…
