D/B Recommended: Felix Kubin, Dickson Dee, Wu Wei & Arto Lindsay @ Berghain Berlin | Monday, 17.01.2011

Felix Kubin is an electronic musician. He has been involved with music since he was 8 years old, when he studied piano, organ and glockenspiel. His youthful experiments really took off in 1980 when he got a Korg MS-20 synthesizer.

[audio:Felix_Kubin_-_16_-_The_Rhythm_Modulator.mp3]His early works have been released under the title The Tetchy Teenage Tapes of Felix Kubin. During this time he also played in a punk band “Die Egozentrischen 2”.

In 1987 Felix Kubin co-founded an experimental noise group Klangkrieg with Tim Buhre. His first solo album Filmmusik was released in 1998 by Gagarin Records, Felix’s own label founded in the same year.

Kubin regularly collaborates on theatric and animation productions, writes radio plays and is a self-described dadaist. His musical influences include contemporary classics such as Karlheinz Stockhausen and György Ligeti, as well as early electronica such as Kraftwerk and DAF.

Dickson Dee has been engaged in the music industry for more than 20 years. His career started from importing European independent labels to Hong Kong, China and Taiwan; followed by establishing his own music label, organizing concerts etc.

His experience includes distribution, import/export, creation, publishing, promotion, artist management and other kinds of works in the industry. He has made a great contribution to the development of independent music in Hong Kong, China and Taiwan.

Arto Lindsay has made a lifelong habit of crossing both geographical and musical borders. Born in the United States and raised in Brazil during the heyday of that country’s pointedly eclectic Tropicália movement of the 1960s, the multi-faceted songwriter/producer/vocalist/guitarist has forged an international reputation as an artist whose work is as seductive as it is challenging.

From his late ‘70s recordings of abrasive “no wave” through his acclaimed series of solo albums beginning in the late ‘90s, Lindsay has bonded rhythms and melodies from diverse cultures and genres in provocative new ways, crafting inimitable soundscapes whose impact can range from fragile pop pleasure to sheer sonic assault.
