Eavesdrop presents outstanding Berlin-based and international examples of contemporary electronic music that are abstract, experimental and emotionally affecting.
The festival uniquely brings together a group of adventurous composer/performers whose practices span a diversity of inter-related contemporary tendencies. These include electro-acoustic vocal deconstructions, field-recording, the musical deployment of digital algorithms, the sonification of online surveillance data (in the guise of a not-to-be-missed performance for ‘browser ensemble’).
Eavesdrop speaks to our contemporary sonic environments whether natural, architectural or virtual. The festival challenges and invites listeners to consider, from multiple perspectives, new social and technical developments in international music culture. It explores how digital and online cultures have fundamentally altered how we perceive and experience both music and our world.
Eavesdrop is presented at Ausland, a venue highly renowned for its strongly independent culture that has supported a multitude of experimental music acts over the past ten years.
