D/B Recommended: “EARLY YEARS” EXHIBITION OPENING @ KW Berlin, 27.02.10

A special opening party for the Early Years exhibition at KW. Bringing together exceptional artists and musicians from Poland and Germany, performances include Felix Kubin and O Tannenbaum DJs.

The exhibition Early Years wanders through the field of institutional self-reflection. It searches for terms fit to describe the emergence of a museum of art in the present, actual artistic, political, and social discourses.

The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw requested for this exhibition the collaboration from artists, with whom it had worked in its pioneering days. The Museum shared its anxieties with the group, and they reciprocated with their share of expectations towards the new institution.
Curated by Sebastian Cichocki, Ana Janevski, Katarzyna Karwańska and Joanna Mytkowska, presented by the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw.

Artists: Wojciech Bąkowski, Yael Bartana, Tania Bruguera, Oskar Dawicki, Sharon Hayes, Sanja Iveković, Daniel Knorr, KwieKulik, Zbigniew Libera, Anna Molska, Paulina Ołowska, Agnieszka Polska, Joanna Rajkowska, Ahlam Shibli, Jan Smaga, Anna Zaradny, Artur Żmijewski.

KUNST-WERKE BERLIN e.V. – INSTITUTE FOR CONTEMPORARY ART

Early Years and the following party at the same time mark the beginning of the larger project The Promised City, a cultural initiative between Berlin and Warsaw with program elements also in Mumbai and Bucharest: Artists, curators and academics from Germany, Poland, India, and Romania develop various new creative productions. All of which are interdisciplinary and evolve around subjects of dreams, illusions, and promises of modern metropolises. Within this context, the project The Knot – Linking the Existing with the Imaginary – organized by CTM, Raumlabor.Berlin, e-cart.ro and the independent curator Jacub Szreder – will take off end of April in Berlin. The project will be continued with events in Warsaw and Bucharest later in the year.
