In February we saw former drummer from the legendary “Krautrock” band Can, Jaki Liebezeit performing live. Now it is the turn of Can singer, Damo Suzuki, to play a concert in Berlin.
[audio:01 – i want more.mp3] The tour schedule of this 60 year old rock veteran is relentless and he has an interesting concept for his live performances. Wherever Damo Suzuki plays he recruits a new band made up of local musicians or friends who happen to be in town.
The result is quite unpredictable and makes for a new and exciting live show each time. Since leaving Can, Suzuki has distanced himself from the conventional music industry Although his release output might not be the most prolific, he is constantly on the road with the live Network and shows no signs of slowing down with age.
Concert film of the former CAN member from 2005, filmed in Birmingham UK. The “Sound Carriers” that night were THE COURTESY GROUP, featuring FYFE from THE GUILEMOTS. Part One starts with an interview.
Damo Suzuki prefers to refer to this working method as “instant composing” rather than improvisation and the shows are always largely spontaneous.
