British Shorts at Sputnik Kino and various locations Berlin / 11.-17.01.2018

Lichtspieklubs fantastic British Shorts festival is celebrating its 11th anniversary with another action packed program featuring the best new British short films around plus, music, concerts, talks and other special events at the highest Kino in Berlin, Sputnik at Südstern as well as other locations such as Acudkino, City King Wedding and Kino Zukunft.

From 11 until 17 January 2018 the 11th edition of the Lichtspielklub short film festival will be celebrated. Nearly 200 films, 7 days, 5 venues! For the first time the opening will take place at HAU Hebbel am Ufer and besides the home base Sputnik Kino, screenings and events will also take place at Acudkino, City King Wedding, Kino Zukunft and Acud Club.

The screenings will feature current British and Irish short films from comedy, drama, animation, thriller, docs, horror, experimental films, music videos to a retrospective screening with the starts of ten years British Shorts, a focus screening “Pioneers of Black British Cinema” and a hommage with Joanna Hogg, Tilda Swinton a.o.Taking place early in the festival season – with the crisp Berlin January weather outside and warm comfortable cinemas – British Shorts has evolved to become a true audience festival with many world, international and German premieres.

The festival is now one of the most interesting platforms for British and Irish short films outside the UK and Ireland.There will be films made by established filmmakers, promising newcomers and talented film students, a mix which makes British Shorts all the more appealing. Big-budget meets low-budget meets no-budget. At the end of the festival the winners of a Jury award as well as an audience award will be announced.Besides countless screenings the festival’s supporting programme includes concerts (feat. White Wine, Tincan Folklore, Johnny Zabala …), parties, an Open Screening and talks with filmmakers, to create a great festival atmosphere. At this year’s free film workshop (including a 48-hour film project) participants will investigate “Crossing Borders” and make their own film in 48 hours.
