BJNilsen is a sound and recording artist. Primarily focused on the sound of nature and its effect on humans, field recordings and the perception of time and space as experienced through sound, often electronically treated.

He has worked for documentary film, television, theatre and sound designer.  For this performance he will continue the deconstruction on his latest work ‘The Invisible City’ which Brainwashed.com said “a subtly mind-bending album of crystalline clarity and cold beauty”

Nilsen began working with experimental music and sound at an early stage. He was influenced by the early tape movements with the pioneers of sonic assault. In 1990, he released his first recordings at the age of 15. He has ollaborated with Chris Watson, Hildur Gudnadottir, Philip Jeck and Stilluppsteypa amongst others.

Stephan Mathieu is a German musician and sound artist whose work is based on digital and analog processing techniques. He works in the fields of digital art and electroacoustics, mainly as a self taught composer and performer of his own music.

For his first computer-based show in Berlin since 2004, Stephan will present Music for Columbia Phonoharp (http://www.bitsteam.de/wp/?page_id=27), played with an electroacoustic setup comprising a 18th century zither and shortwave radio.

Fluid Radio wrote about his recent performance at London’s Cafe Oto: “Music then turned into sound: thick and tridimensional layers washing over the audience, remnants of radio signals muffled underneath rich beds of beating harmonic patterns, giant swells of spectral strings coming in and out of focus. Mathieu positioning and repositioning his e-bows on the phonoharp, as if he was looking to unlock a secret buried centuries ago.”

Hanno Leichtmann came to berlin in the early 90s as a free improvising drummer. After years of improvised music he began to show interest in electronic music. From 1999 on he produced electronic music under the monikers static, whitehole, forest jackson, the VSQ and hanno leichtmann. In the past years he was also part (as a drummer) in the different electronic projects.

The Digital in Berlin Music Salon takes place @ The KissKiss Ballroom. The event series will feature serious forms of quality music from forward-thinking electronic/experimental musicians to folk & singer-songwriters, classical minimalist and drone composers.

The Ballroom is a top floor loft directly above Mauerpark; an exclusive hairdressing salon in the daytime, and at night a relaxed and unassuming space with international events and performances.

Digital in Berlin highly recommended! We are giving away 2x 2 tickets for BJ Nilsen & Stephan Mathieu. Just send a mail to win@digitalinberlin.de with “BJ Nilsen & Stephan Mathieu” as the subject.
