This time with Masayoshi Fujita from Japan. Each artist is asked 11 set questions and to contribute 3 “facts” which can be any statement from them on absolutely anything: their own views on politics, religion, the environment, sport…or just something they read in the paper or saw on TV.
FACTS:
1: like driving, but have no car here.
2: learned shooting film before but quitted. i’d like to do it again with my music.
3: make wood prints sometimes.
QUESTIONS:
1. What is the biggest inspiration for your music?
the landscapes and the nature I have seen.
2. How and when did you get into making music?
i played drums since i was kid. and it was natural for me to get interested in making own music.
first i made some songs with guitar. then, 7 or 8 years ago i met a jazz vibraphonist and saw vibraphone for the first time.
i was amazed by that instrument and i started taking lessons from him. since then, i have been making music mainly with vibraphone.
3. What are your 5 favourite albums of all time?

4. What do you associate with Berlin?
wall of old buildings, unused spaces, multi culture, many trees, tv tower, beer…
5. What’s your favourite place in your town?
beach in chigasaki, my home town.
6. If there was no music in the world, what would you do instead?
astrophysics or live in mountain
7. What was the last record you bought?
fragrance of notes by mama!milk
8. Who would you most like to collaborate with?
Roland Dyens
9. What was your best gig (as performer or spectator)?
as performer, a gig in planetarium in tokyo.
as spectator, Ryoji Ikeda at HKW
10. How important is technology to your creative process?
for me, high technology is getting less important.
analogue technology is still important.
acoustic instruments are more important.
11. Do you have siblings and are they proud or jealous of you?
I have one older brother. I hope he is proud of me…

el fog (Masayoshi Fujita, originally from japan and now Berlin based) forms his aesthetics into sounds with the vibraphone + electronics (and with minimal use of other analogue/digital instruments).

He has been influenced and inspired by electronic music, jazz, dub, hip hop, etc…, and also the silence and deepness of the fog and the mountains and the gravity within.
