This time with Berlin`s siren Clara Hill.
Each artist is asked 11 set questions and to contribute 3 “facts” which can be any statement from them on absolutely anything: their own views on politics, religion, the environment, sport…or just something they read in the paper or saw on TV.
FACTS:
1: clara liebt die natur über alles!
2: clara liebt die musik über alles!
3: clara fühlt sich wohl in den armen des chefredakteurs von D/B
QUESTIONS:
1. What is the biggest inspiration for your music?
singing birds in combination with everyday noises, nature sounds, old synthesizer, unfulfilled desires, great songs and great compositions of other musicians.
2. How and when did you get into making music?
i`ve been singing since my childhood. sounds very simple-but thats it. my mom gave me a lot to listen to – music she loved to listen to:
beatles, simon and garfunkel, barry white, rolling stones, Serge Reggiani, jacues brel, jefferson airplane, a lot of classical music….i think this inspired me a lot when i was a little child. later i tried to copy early madonna songs (from the 80ties) and tried to analyse music from other artists. most of the time my melancholy was and still is the reason i have to make music.
3. What are your 5 favourite albums of all time?
linda perhacs-parallelograms
nick drake-pink moon
boards of canada – music has the right to children
michael jackson-of the wall
stevie wonder-innervisions
and many more…
4. What do you associate with Berlin?
my hometown
my friends and family
konnopke (curry wurst)
gentle sparrows
and my special secret nature places.
5. What’s your favourite place in your town?
my home
6. If there was no music in the world, what would you do instead?
i do graphic-design when im not doing music, which is good to keep stay grounded. but i would love to sell flowers in my own shop and play some concerts in there…
do exclusive evenings with D/B!
7. What was the last record you bought?
a bird cd
8. Who would you most like to collaborate with?
beck, nigel godrich, christ., linda perhacs…
9. What was your best gig (as performer or spectator)?
gigs i saw when i was 18 years old which were really great include “helmet” and “soundgarden”. “tortoise” was also great last time. i saw them twice and i still think about the drummer who also plays keys. awesome! some of my best gigs i’ve given were in portugal and moscow…in front of 6000 people. this was a very special and exciting experience – cause i actually didn’t really sleep for two nights beforehand!
10. How important is technology to your creative process?
technology is very important for my work to realize musical ideas i have in mind, for create new electronical sounds, working in the studio, creating sketches at home…
BUT i “write” and work on songs just with a guitar and a piano.
11. Do you have siblings and are they proud or jealous of you?
i am a only child.

At seventeen, Clara founded a Acid jazz band, together with Funès. In the early nineties, at the height of Acid jazz, the band toured through Berlin´s clubs and Germany, gathering a high-profile reputation. During these years, Clara made her first steps in live music. During one of her shows, she met DJ Alex Barck from Jazzanova, who was spinning records as a support DJ.
CLARA HILL returns to her first influences with the last album called CLARA HILL´S FOLKWAVES and an album entitled Sideways. With this project she intends to shed a light on a hidden side of her artistic personality. She crafted 10 delicious acousticbased and folk-electronica-oriented songs highlighting perfectly her passionate and rapturous voice.
